Mama Oliech's Kitchen

Food Brand Story

Mama Oliech's Kitchen was created by her son James Oliech in 2011, in celebration of his mom and her culinary influence on his life. He grew up watching her perfect dishes for him and his siblings, often after working a full shift, but she was rarely too tired to prepare her family a delicious meal — and not just something thrown together to fill the belly, but real 5 star meals. She would always say "Pika kwa upendo au la kabisa." (Cook with love or not at all.) Words that James now lives by as he cooks every meal in his mom's honor. But she's not gone from us — Mama Oliech is still cooking with love, and if you are lucky enough to come to the restaurant on the right day, Mama Oliech will cook you up something personally.

Yes, that's the vibe at Mama Oliech's Kitchen — a real family atmosphere with a beautiful view of Lake Victoria as you savor tilapia caught from it just that morning. Because at Mama Oliech's Kitchen, another rule is freshness. Everything from the fish pulled from the water in the morning, to freshly slaughtered meat, and produce sourced locally — a real farm to table operation.

The weekends bring their own vibe to Mama Oliech's Kitchen as it transforms into a music venue where you can come enjoy live performances, dancing, and pombe — responsibly of course. This is where son James shines as he routinely graces the stage with his band.

That's Mama Oliech's Kitchen — a great menu with entrées like Tamarind Glazed Sausage, Coconut Rice and Sukuma Wiki, Tilapia and Cassava Fries, and even vegan friendly dishes like Lentil Spaghetti. The music, the vibes, and a real familiar feel like a get together at grandma's house. So Njoo Tule — and after you've enjoyed the food, come enjoy the music, all under that Kisumu sky, accompanied by that sweet Victoria breeze.
